Fonts & Text

Font Types
There is one important thing to keep in mind when selecting a font type (or font face) to use on your web page. The visitor to your page must have the same font installed on their computer in order to see it. Otherwise they will just see the default font. For this reason, it is better to use the more common font types such as the ones that are installed with windows.

If you happen to find an unusual font that you think would look great on your page as a heading, you can always use it as a graphic image. This can be done with just about any graphic editor such as Paint Shop Pro or Adobe PhotoShop.

Font Tags
Although the text="color" attribute in the <body> tag determines the default text color for the page, you can still specify the color, font face, and size of any letter, word, or sentence.

This is a complete font tag:

<font size="4" face="arial" color="red">Text Here</font>

size="4" This determines the size of the font and the number can be from 1 to 7.

1 2 3 4 5 6 7

face="arial" This determines the font type. I'm using arial as an example. Keep in mind what I said earlier about the font types.

color="red" This determines the font color. If you use hex codes instead, you will have a much larger choice of colors.

</font> Any text in the area where the "Text Here" is will be controlled by the font tag until it reaches this.

Another way to alter the size of text is to place it between <H1></H1> tags. The number in this tag can be from 1 to 5 with 1 being the largest. These are normally used for Headings and any text following this tag will drop down a line.

<H1>Text</H1>

<H2>Text</H2>

<H3>Text</H3>

<H4>Text</H4>

<H5>Text</H5>
Text Alignment
Text, like images, will align left by default. Here are some ways to align text.

<p align="right">text here</p>

<p align="center">text here</p>

A good way to indent a paragraph is to use a series of four &nbsp; characters before the first word of the paragraph.

You can justify a paragraph by using this tag. <p align="justify">Paragraph here</p>
